Understanding
Your Rights
When advocating for yourself when you are mistreated by people or institutions it is essential that you are familiar with the policies, laws, and rights that will shape how decisions on your case will be judged.
For a broad understanding of the laws in Ireland, see the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Education webpage.
For cases of bullying or harassment, see IADT’s Mutual Respect Policy.
For issues of inequality or exclusion, see IADT’s Equality Diversity & Inclusion Policy.
Many of IADT’s policies equally apply to both students and staff, so for a full list of all policies see the institute’s HR Policies page.
To raise the case of a specific issue or to request help understanding any of the policies above, please contact welfare@iadtsu.com.
If you’re in conflict with a landlord or are facing a dispute related your living situation, visit the website of Threshold, a housing rights advocacy group for info. They can be reached 9am-9pm on their free helpline at 1800 454 454.
For issues in the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown area, DLR County Council’s website has information and an online reporting tool.
The online Citizens Information hub offers a wide range of resources on your legal rights as a resident/citizen in the Republic of Ireland.
