Policy, Council, Reps, and the Constitution
IADT Students’ Union is a democratic organisation led by its members and is defined by its Constitution, Policies, and Mandates.
Every month, Class Reps and Union Officers meet at Comhairle (Class Rep Council) to govern the Union.
-
The IADTSU Constitution is the highest governing document of the Union and may only be changed by referendum of the membership.
-
Policies and Mandates are approved by simple majority (51%) in Class Rep Council.
The active term of each Policy is 3 years, after which it must be re-approved or will expire.
Policies exist to outline procedures, establish sub-committees, and mandate Union Officers to do specific tasks that are not outlined in the Constitution, and must be written in line with the Constitution.

Comhairle or Class Rep Council is the democratic heart of the IADT Students’ Union, a body of representatives elected from every course.
Comhairle meets once per month during the academic year, starting in October until June. They hold officers accountable, vote on policy and mandates, and shape the work of IADTSU more generally.
There can be 2 reps per course, per year, totalling 8 reps for a 4-year course.
If your course has multiple streams, there should be 1 rep per stream/discipline, per year.
Each course/stream elects its representatives, who must then register HERE.
-
To keep IADTSU Officers accountable, each officer has to present a monthly report of their work and expenses at each meeting of Comhairle. Class Reps vote on whether or not to accept the report.
This folder contains all of the minutes (meeting notes), reports, and supporting documentation from each Comhairle from 2023-Present.
Annual Reports and Financial Accounts from 2018-Present can be found at the bottom of this page on IADT’s website.

Class Representative is a student who is elected to represent the interests of their coursemates, in Comhairle, at Program Boards, and with Institute staff directly.
There can be 2 Reps per course per year, totalling 8 reps for a 4-year course. If a course has multiple streams, there should be 1 rep per stream/discipline per year.
For more info on being a Class Rep, read the Class Rep Handbook.
